A Major theme on this Page is “peace thru peace”. What does peace-thru-peace mean?
The word peace itself is a broad spectrum of meanings unique to each individual who considers the word. In the political realm, on one extreme side of the term peace, might be the fundamentalist pacifist who opposes all violence: physical, spiritual, or otherwise. On the other side might be an aggressive democratic advocate and participant who bears the aggression inherent to the democratic process, but stops short of resort to physical violence.
For our purposes, the term includes both of the above and everything in between. It is anything short of physical violence. Although the realm of “anything short of physical violence” may not always be peaceful, it is the achievement of peace through nonviolent means which is important. The effort here is to define a feasible political movement, which rejects resort to physical violence, both in the international realm, e.g., war, and in the domestic political realm as well.
The desire for such a movement grows partially out of the understanding that the resort to physical violence will never end violence because in the process of “ending” violence with violence, violence is being justified, so people will continue to believe in violence as a productive tool. Therefore, the violence never ends.
In the international political realm, peace-thru-peace is merely to achieve accommodation through diplomacy without the backdrop of military force. It is a commitment to cooperative behavior which enables non-violent negotiated solutions.
A commitment to peace through nonviolent means is a state of consciousness, it is a spiritual state of being. It is a way of believing; it requires faith, it requires courage.
Peace-thru-peace, in recognition that war will never achieve peace, only temporary pauses in the fighting, will need to become a massive political movement if we are to avoid catastrophic global war.
Ideally, this will take the form of autonomous individuals who take the idea into their communities, promoting the idea on social media posts, in conversation, wherever and whenever the opportunity presents itself. It is a movement which needs to spread rapidly if the Nation is to avoid entanglement in spreading global war with likely nuclear consequences.
Peace through peace, spread the Idea, be part of the solution.
